Matt Pontarelli

Sous Chef

Born and raised in Chicago, Matt studied Criminal Justice at the University of Dayton before finding his passion in the culinary arts. He fell in love with bread baking, but started his career as a line cook, learning from Chef Brian Huston, at Boltwood. Following his interest in bread baking, Matt moved on to Publican Quality Bread under James Beard Award-winning baker, Greg Wade. After honing his bread skills, Pontarelli teamed up again with Huston, now at DMK Restaurants. Together they opened The Exchange with Matt as Head Baker. Matt’s unique skill set, and creativity has just recently brought him to NYC, where he is excited to continue his growth within DMK Restaurants. Matt spends his free time searching for his new neighborhood coffee shop and exploring his new city.
